Product Description
Details

Produced by Bodegas Valdesil, the wine Valderroa greatly benefits from being sourced from mineral soils composed of blue slate, a feature which gives this Spanish red wine from DO Valdeorras a distinctively mineral character.

A varietal Mencía, this red wine from Valdeorras is made from vines scattered across several plots at an altitude of 500 metres above sea level, in the Galician province of Ourense.

Harvested by hand, the wine Valderroa 2022 was vinified in stainless steel tanks using only indigenous yeasts. After completing both alcoholic and malolactic fermentations, it was aged on lees for 9 months. Finally, it was clarified, filtered and cold-stabilized.

Pair this red wine aged on lees with BBQ'd meat.

Appearance

The red wine Valderroa is medium ruby with a shiny violet rim.

Nose

This varietal Mencía carries some delightfully intense, slightly wild notes of red fruit, nuanced by some mineral notions and a dash of aromatic herbs.

Palate

Fresh and energetic, this red wine from Bodega Valdesil has a meaty, yummy texture and a rugged immediacy. Cranberries, underbrush and earthy remembrances. Long and crisp, with lively tannins and a mineral aftertaste.

Our personal opinion

An inviting, Atlanic Mencía, the wine Valderroa 2022 is a phenomenal value.

Mineral, juicy, a bit wild, full of impetus. Pairs fabulously with T-bone steaks and BBQs. Once again, incredible value.
