This is arguably Vall Llach's "Grand Cru." In other words, the top wine of one of Priorat's top wineries.
This Spanish red wine is made exclusively from grapes coming from a single estate, called Mas de la Rosa.
South-oriented, the estate is located at an altitude of 600 metres above sea level. It is planted with centenary vineyards, firmly rooted in extremely steep, almost unworkable slopes composed of the famed, black slate llicorella soil of Priorat.
Selected and destemmed, they were cold-macerated for 3 days and then fermented in 225 and 500-litre oak barrels and in little stainless steel tanks, with daily punch-downs and mild pump-overs.
After that, this red wine from Priorat was aged in new French oak barrels for 16 months.
This Crianza red wine by the Vall Llach winery has a long lifespan. Drink until 2030.
Decant no less than 3 hours before drinking.
Extremely limited production: only 1,000 bottles.
This is one of the six Catalan wines awarded with the "Vi de Finca Qualificada” distinction, Catalonia's highest legal recognition concerning wine quality.
Vall Llach Mas de la Rosa has a bright, intense, dark cherry colour with a garnet rim.
This estate red wine Finca Mas de la Rosa by Vall Llach is immensely deep, with an unending aromatic richness. The purity of aromas is out of this world, with some distilled, pristine aromas of wild berries and a seemingly unending parade of nuances, from red and blue flowers and menthol, to spices, liquorice and mineral. Dim notes of spices and, again, a marvelously intoxicating mineral finish.
This blend of Carignan and Grenache from Priorat makes one's heart beat faster. Sturdy, wonderfully textured, concentrated and super intense. Palate is phenomenal, though still a bit compressed, and acidity is crisp and laser-like. Minerality is so present that sometimes the wine feels almost like drinking liquid stone. Tannins are ripe, nutritious, and the ending is matched by very few wines. An this wine is only in its beginnings! Exhilarating.
