A stupendous Spanish red wine with a wonderfully traditional character, Viña Arana Reserva is produced by La Rioja Alta.
Made from grapevines over 30 years of age located at the very heart of La Rioja, it is made mostly from Tempranillo, complemented with 5% Mazuelo which brings acidity and aromatic complexity to the wine.
Deemed "Excellent" by the Rioja regulatory board, the 2011 vintage was harvested in October. Once in the cellar, the grapes were spontaneously fermented in deposits. The malolactic fermentation lasted up to 75 days.
After that, this red wine from Rioja was aged for 36 months in American oak barrels built at the winery's own cooperage. The wine was drawn off every 6 months.
Finally, Viña Arana Reserva 2011 was aged for a further 42 months in the bottle prior to its release.
Drink until 2026.

Nose | Well-structured and intense, this Reserve red wine from La Rioja exhibits some very clera notes of red and black fruit, nuanced by aromas of vanilla, clove and toffee. There are also some balsamic notions of cedar, tobacco and toast over an earthy background. |
Palate | Gentle and mature, this red wine by La Rioja Alta has a silky, smooth body and a nice balance between fruit and oak. Remembrances of toast, dry earth, spices and balsam. Very good acidity, excellent balance and savoury tannins. Long ending with a nice complexity. |
Our personal opinion | A classic among classics, Viña Arana Reserva 2011is magnificent with roasted meats. |
