White Wine Viña Tondonia Blanco Reserva 2011
Availability: Out of stock
Although La Rioja is probably not the first place that comes to mind when one thinks of a Spanish white wine, there is no doubt that the region produces some truly outstanding ones.
Speaking of which, one brand stands above the rest when we talk about great white wines from La Rioja; namely, the R. López de Heredia-Viña Tondonia winery.
As usual, Viña Tondonia Blanco Reserva is made from a blend of Viura and Malvasia (10%) grapes coming from centenary vineyards.
Harvested by hand, the grapes were destemmed and subsequently fermented and macerated in huge wooden vats. After that, this reserva white wine was aged for 72 months, that is, 6 years, with 2 annual rackings, in used American oak barrels. Then the wine was clarified with egg whites and bottled unfiltered.
Finally, Viña Tondonia Blanco Reserva 2011 was further aged for a long period of time in the cellar before its commercial release.
We suggest that you aerate the wine at least 30 minutes before you drink it.

Nose | Elegant, complex and very expressive, this white wine suggests some delicate notes of ripe white fruit, alongside notions of vanilla, smoke, spices, aromatic herbs, green tea, dry fruit and flowers. This is a superbly crafted blend of Macabeo and Viura. |
Palate | Bold and rich, this wine from R. López de Heredia - Viña Tondonia has real complexity and a superb balance. Texture is substantial but also nimble and the wine is information-rich. Toast, spices, citrus, bitter herbs, mineral, honey, ginger, and some mineral remembrances. Round and gentle, with an exceptional acidity and a long, rich finish. |
Our personal opinion | The white wine Viña Tondonia Blanco Reserva 2011 is a paragon of quality and finesse. Phantastic ageing potential. |
