Red Wine Viña Tondonia Reserva 2008

The 2008 vintage of this Spanish red wine by Bodegas López de Heredia was a Very Good one according to the Rioja Regulatory Board. Harvest took place throughout October.
Meticulously harvested and selected, the vinification of the grapes was carried out following the same techniques that, established more than a century ago, have put the López de Heredia-Viña Tondonia winery in a class of its own.
Once the process was completed, the wine was aged for 6 years in oak barrels, with two annual rackings.
Prior to its bottling, Viña Tondonia Reserva 2008 was clarified with egg whites. It was not filtered, however, in order to preserve its traditional character.
Needless to say, this reserva from La Rioja has a wonderful ageing potential.
The red wine Viña Tondonia Reserva has a medium, ruby-coloured robe with a brick red rim.
Deep and enticing. The first impression of this red wine by the López de Heredia winery is defined by some spicy notes of vanilla and clove, along with fine leather, smoke and withered herbs. As the wine opens, it shows notes of ripe red fruit, some remembrances of flowers and a dash of tobacco, cocoa and arabica coffee.
Classicisim at its best. This red wine from La Rioja is fresh, linear and smooth. Notes of red berries, Havana cigars, cedar desk and Oriental spices. Tense acidity, typical of Viña Tondonia, medium body and a long, dreamy persistance.

Extremely versatile, Viña Tondonia Reserva 2008 is a treat. Just pair it with some French Foie Gras or some premium Ibérico ham and you'll see...
