Bodega Altolandón
Bodega Altolandón produces characterful wines from high-altitudes vines.
Created in the late 1990s by Manuel Garrote and Rosalía Molina, Bodega Altolandón is located in Landete, a village halfway between the provinces of Valencia, Cuenca and Teruel, in the DO Manchuela.
Perched 1,100 metres above sea level, in an area which enjoys exceptional conditions for growing grapes, Bodega Altolandón owns 200 hectares of organically farmed vineyards trained used a single trellis system, with a density of 4,000 plants per hectare that stimulates grapevine competition and forces the plants to produce small, highly concentrated berries. The winery grows both local varieties, such as Grenache and Tempranillo, and international ones, like Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Syrah, Merlot and Malbec.
The grapes are meticulously harvested and vinified in 6,000 litre stainless steel tanks under controlled temperature. Fermented with indigenous yeasts and macerated for 2 to 3 weeks, the wines are usually aged for periods going from 8 to 24 months in new and used French oak barrels. Once the process is finished, the wines of Bodega Altolandón are naturally stabilized in diposits. Finally, they are kept in the cellar for a minimum of 8 months before hitting the market.
Because of the high-altitude vines, enhanced by a very precise winemaking, the wines of Bodega Altolandón are fresh and full of character.
