Produced by Jorge Ordóñez, the funky Wrongo Dongo is a young Spanish red wine that, besides its funny name, has a lot offer.
Crafted by oenologist Rafael Cañizares at the Bodegas Volver winery, which he started with Mr. Ordóñez a decade and a half ago, this wine is made from 35-year-old Monastrell vines grown in rocky, dry soils in the southeastern Spanish region of Jumilla.
Fermented in stainless steel tanks at a temperature below 27ºC, Wrongo Dongo 2018 was subsequently aged for a brief period of 6 months in French oak barrels.
This red wine from Jumilla is a fabulous value.
The young red wine from Jumilla Wrongo Dongo has an attractive, bright cherry colour with an intense violet rim.
Creamy, fruity notes of red and black fruit and spices. This Monastrell from Jumilla has an underlying, well-balanced layer of toast and smoke.
Velvety and yummy, with lively notes of toast and a touch of black fruit and violets, with lively tannins and a good acidity. This young red wine by Bodegas Volver has a medium, pleasant finish.

Funny and excellently priced, Wrongo Dongo 2018 is a judiciously oaked Monastrell wine which will pair nicely with BBQs.
