This crianza red wine is made from grapes coming from a single estate, called "Estrecho de Pipa", located in the highest area of the Alicante DO. Planted in extremely poor and arid sandy soils the low-yielding grapevines are farmed following minimal intervention techniques and environmentally friendly procedures, using no chemicals or synthetic pesticides whatsoever.
After a meticulous harvest, Enrique Mendoza Estrecho Monastrell 2016 was traditionally vinified and aged for 14 months in used French oak barrels.
This great red wine from Alicante will improve in the bottle for 8-10 years.
Decant a minimum of 1 hour before drinking.
This is a rare and sought-after wine. Production below 5,000 bottles.
The red wine Enrique Mendoza Estrecho Monastrell has an intense, enticing ruby colour with a garnet rim.
Complex, rich and extremely pure aromatic expression, the trademark of and old-vines Monastrell. First we smell red fruit of the utmost quality, nuanced by blue flowers, dim spicy aromas and, as Enrique Mendoza Estrecho opens, a symphony of Mediterranean herbs, garrigue, lively mineral notes and remembrances of dry earth.
This red wine by Bodegas Enrique Mendoza sort of squares the circle intensity and finesse. Marvelous texture, full of detail and intrincacy, slowly unfurling, but with no weight or flabbiness at all. Acidity is fabulous, tannins are ripe, and the wine breathes and sings freely. This red wine from Alicante has a long finish with an aftertaste of red fruit, balsam and Mediterranean herbs.

Exceptional, along the lines of some great Rhônes. However, it is deeper and somehow less flashy. Great control and authority, superb craftmanship and GREAT ageing potential.
