Details

Produced by Celler Espelt in the northern Catalan region of L'EmpordàEspelt Quinze Roures is made from vineyards 45 to over 100 years old.

The 2018 vintage of this Spanish white wine is a blend of 60% White Grenache and 40% Grey Grenache, or Lledoner Blanc and Lledoner Gris, as they are called in the region.

Manually harvested, the two varieties were separately vinified. The Grey Grenache grapes were cold macerated and delicately pressed in order not to colour the wine. The White Grenache grapes were macerated with the skins for a short time.

After that, this white wine from L'Empordà was fermented in stainless steel tanks, French oak barrels and concrete egg-shaped vats.

Finally, Espelt Quinze Roures 2018 was blended and transferred into French oak barrels, where it was aged on its lees for over a period of 5 months.

Drink until 2025. Aerate the wine a bit before drinking. Serve it at 12ºC.

Additional Information

Appearance

The wine Espelt Quinze Roures has a very bright, clean lemon colour with some grey tinges and some greenish glints.

Nose

Complex and utterly Mediterranean, this blend of White Grenache and Grey Grenache shows prominent notes of pears, melon, pineapple and lima rind, combined with a serious mineral background, as well as notes of spices, dry fruit, aniseed and fennel.

Palate

This white wine by Celler Espelt is fresh and pleasant, with a tense acidity and a linear passage. Pear syrup, royal jelly, bread crust, nuts, almonds and aromatic herbs. Long finish with some remembrances of dry fruit and candied citrus, alongside some dim mineral and earthy remembrances, typical of an Empordà white wine.

Our personal opinion

Complex and substantial, Espelt Quinze Roures 2018 will pair excellently with white meat, rice dishes, and creamy cheeses.

A very good white wine, with concentration and depth. I drank it with a roasted chicken and the combination was sensational.
