A young, unoaked Spanish red wine made by the Can Serra dels Exibis winery, Exibis is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and two extremely interesting native varieties. The recently recovered, high-acidic Sumoll, and the virtually unknwown, delicate Mandó.
All of them come from vineyards grown following the principles of byodinamic agriculture in the Pla de Bages region, located in central Catalonia. The vines are planted on terraces at an altitude of 500 metres above sea level and grow in soils composed of clay and limestone. Climate is Mediterranean-Continental.
Handpicked in boxes and refrigerated at a temperature of 4ºC prior to alcoholic fermentation, Exibis 2018 was fermented in open tanks with periodic punch-downs. Skin maceration did not last longer than 8 days. Finally, the wine was aged for 3 months in the tanks.
Due to cumbersome Spanish bureaucratic regulations, the Mandó grape has still not been oficially recognised by the DO Pla de Bages. Thus, the variety is not listed on the wine's label.
The red wine Exibis has a medium-high, red-purple robe with a violet rim.
This young red wine from Pla de Bages exhibits aromas of forest berries, black plums, forgotten flowers and some dim spicy notes. Untarnished expression of fruit in the midst of a wild environment.
Interesting balance between the structure and weight of the Cabernet Sauvignon, and the expressiveness of both the Sumoll and the Mandó varieties. This red wine by Can Serra dels Exibis is fresh, tense and very much alive. Notes of forest and garrigue, along with a bouquet of flowers and flavours of ripe black and red fruit. Tannins are ripe and acidity is noticeable. Long finish with a mineral aftertaste.
|Our personal opinion||
The little-known Exibis 2018 is an extremely good value. In fact, it tastes like wines twice its price.

Lots of aromatic herbs. Crisp, uncommon palate. I dig it
Super fresh, more Atlantic than Mediterranean, with no oak whatsoever. Nice discovery.
