The remarkable Ferrer Bobet Vinyes Velles - meaning "old vines" - is made from around 100-year-old Carignan and Grenache vineyards. Grown in Priorat for centuries, no other varieties express the dry, dark soil of the region better than those two.
The 2016 vintage of this Spanish red wine by Ferrer Bobet is made from a blend of 70% Carignan and 30% Grenache.
The grapes were picked by hand and, after a careful selection process, completed alcoholic fermentation in wooden and stainless steel tanks. Then the wine was put in fine grain, medium-light toasted French oak barrels, where it underwent malolactic fermentation and was aged for 15 months.
As usual, Ferrer Bobet Vinyes Velles 2016 was neither clarified nor filtered, and spent a further 11 months in the bottle before its commercial release onto the market.
We strongly recommend that you decant this red wine from Priorat for 2 hours before you drink it. However, a longer period of aeration will greatly improve the wine's expressiveness,
Production of 25,000 bottles.
This wine won the Vinari de Bronze 2019 in the age-worthy red wines category.
The wine Ferrer Bobet Vinyes Velles has a dark, deep cherry colour with a bright purple rim.
This exquisite blend of old-vines Grenache and Carignan has a high aromatic intensity, beginning with jamy, lush fruits like blackcurrants, plums, raspberries and blackberries. We also find hints of spices -vanilla, clove and pepper-, buttery caramel notes and balsamic aromas of cedar and sandalwood. Sophisticated floral aromas of violets in bloom take us for a moment to Burgundy, but the earthy, refreshing smell of llicorella, Priorat's trademark, soon bring us back home.
What a pleasure! This Crianza red wine is silky, suave texture full of ripe fruit, chocolate, toffee with a refreshing, evocative, black slate minerality in the background. A tight wine, with firm acidity, rock-solid structure and savoury tannins, this Priorat by Ferrer Bobet is slowly approaching its apex, displaying finesse, breadth and complexity.

Getting there, but not quite yet. Needs 4 more years or so to reach the top.
Remains consistent vintage after vintage. On my top list.
One of Priorat's great wines. It has everything: depth, complexity and real elegance. Outstanding!!
