The wine Finca la Emperatriz Reserva is a Spanish red wine made from old, over 60-year-old vines by the Finca La Emperatriz winery.
The vines have extremely low yields of less than 1.5 kg per plant.
Harvested by hand in mid-October, once in the cellar the grapes were cold-soaked for two days before undergoing alcoholic fermentation.
After the completion of both processes, the wine was transferred into 60% American oak and 40% French oak barrels, where it was aged for 24 months.
Finally, Finca la Emperatriz Reserva 2014 was aged for a further 22 months in the cellar prior to its release.
Drink now until 2025. Decant 30 minutes before drinking.
42,000 bottles produced.
The red wine Finca La Emperatriz Reserva has a clean, bright, medium-high ruby-coloured robe with a garnet rim.
This deep reserve red wine by Finca La Emperatriz smells of Havanna cigars and cocoa, with some remembrances of orange rind, a dash of cedar and balsam, and some intense aromas of ripe black fruit and red berries.
Expertly crafted, with a fresh, elegant passage through the palate and a balanced structure. Red berries, remembrances of underbush and some understated tertiary notes that add a layer of complexity. This traditional wine from La Rioja has an excellent acidity, mild tannins and long, balsamic finish.
|Our personal opinion||
More complex than in previous vintages, Finca la Emperatriz Reserva 2014 is a wine that deserves some attention. An excellent value indeed.
