A single varietal Bobal, Finca Terrerazo is a one-of-a-kind Spanish red wine.
Sadly neglected for many years, Bobal is a late-ripening variety with high tannin content and a high natural acidity. Thus, it is ideally suited for making wines with a great ageing potential, particularly in the current climate change scenario.
Produced by Bodega Mustiguillo, this Crianza red wine comes from vines planted between 1945 and 1970 at an altitude of 800 metres. The unique personality of the terroir has gained the winery, a member of the Grandes Pagos de España association, the recognition of its own Designation of Origin, namely DO El Terrerazo.
The grapes were harvested by hand, selected twice, and separately vinified according to its plot of origin.
The wine was fermented in French wooden vats for 8 to 10 days, and then macerated for 15 days. After that, this wine from DOP El Terrerazo completed malolactic fermentation in French oak barrels. Then it was aged for 18 months in French oak vats and in 225-litre French oak barrels. It was not fined or stabilized.
Bottled in June 2018, Finca Terrerazo 2016 was aged for 12 months in the cellar prior to its release.
We suggest that you decant this organic red wine at least 1 hour before drinking.
The red wine Finca Terrerazo has an intense, bright, high cherry-coloured robe with a violet rim.
This varietal Bobal by winemaker Toni Sarrión is very original, though it needs a good deal of time to express itself. Ripe black fruit, deep mineral undertones, intense notes of balsam and aromatic herbs, and some floral, earthy and spicy nuances.
Smooth and savoury, this Spanish red wine from Bodega Mustiguillo has some bold tannins and a rock-solid structure. Tremendous freshness, an enticing mineral background and some bitter nuances, all conveying a definite sense of place. Long, earthy finish. All in all, a lot of information that certainly needs some years to unfurl.
