Details

A wine from the DO Montsant, Furvus is made from a rather uncommon, very interesting blend of 50% Hairy Grenache and 50% Merlot.

The origin of this Spanish red wine is a 15-hectare certified organic estate located at an altitude of 525 metres above sea level. Soils are composed of clay and limestone.

Produced by the increasingly prestigious Vinyes Domènech winery, the grapes were fermented for a period of 12 days at a controlled temperature.

After that, this Montsant red wine was aged for 14 months in 1st and 2nd year American and French oak barrels.

We suggest that you decant this Furvus 2016 1 hour before drinking.

Additional Information

Appearance

The red wine Furvus has an elegant, intense, bright cherry colour with a violet rim.

Nose

Original and evocative, this Crianza red wine from Montsant begins with an enchantingly Mediterranean note: undergrowth, rosemary, thyme, and garrigue. Furvus also suggests some pure aromas red berries, nuanced by some fresh mineral undertones and a subdued spicy note. There is plenty to enjoy here.

Palate

Substantial, but not overripe or massive, this organic red wine from Vinyes Domènech carries some delicious notes red fruit, vanilla, cinnamon, roasted coffee, balsam and some mineral remembrances. The crisp acidity tightens up the smooth texture. Finish is long, with excellent fruit and an earthy note.

Our personal opinion

A textbook example of a wine with a bridled power, Furvus 2016 is one of Montsant's absolute best values.

1st class Montsant red which won't break the bank. Perfectly adjusted, round and fresh, compelling.

  2. Furvus review by John Roxy on 10/23/2017

As smooth as it gets. Garnacha Peluda & Merlot are a likely blend, but they complement each other in a marvelous way. Silky palate, crunchy fruit, tannins like velvet and an intringuing mineral quality.
