Details

This interesting Spanish red wine bears the name of a rural trail that traverses the Priorat region.

Produced by Casa Gran del Siurana, GR-174 is made from grapes coming from the 11 villages that constitute the Priorat DOC.

This red wine from Priorat is a blend of Grenache, Samsó (Carignan) and Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented with some brushes of Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Ull de Llebre (Tempranillo).

The vines are planted in soils composed of black and red slate. Harvested by hand, the grapes were destemmed, macerated and separately fermented.

After that, half of the grapes completed malolactic fermentation in French oak barrels and were subsequently aged for 4 months.

Aerate GR-174 2018 30 minutes before drinking.

Additional Information

Appearance

The red wine GR-174 has a medium-high cherry-coloured robe with a ruby rim.

Nose

This young red wine from Priorat smells of red and black fruit, amarena cherries, flowers, tobacco leaves, balsam and dark mineral.

Palate

Fresh and deep, this blend of 7 varieties produced by Casa Gran del Siurana brings to mind raspberries and blueberries, alongisde nuances of Mediterranean garrigue, menthol, toast and spices. Smooth and well-balanced, with a tense acidity and a medium, mineral finish.

Our personal opinion

Characterful but not overpowering, GR-174 2018 is a fairly good introduction to Priorat.

An honest, unpretentious Priorat that works very well for me. Commended.

  2. Priorat 174 review by Obermeier on 8/29/2017

Here you have the Priorat trademark and also a good drinkability. I've shared this wine with some fellow drinkers who at first were not very prone to drinking Priorat. It worked wonders, and now most of therm are fans of the region.
