An outstanding Cava Gran Reserva, one of the best available on the market, Gramona Celler Batlle is made from a blend of 75% Xarel.lo and 25% Macabeo, two native varieties with a great ageing potential.
Located in the Font Jui estate (which bears the Paraje Calificado distinction), the organically and biodynamically farmed vineyards grow in sandy-clay soils. Climate is Mediterranean.
After a manual harvest, the grapes were meticulously selected and pressed whole bunch. Traditionally vinified, this Gran Reserve Brut Cava by Gramona was bottled in order to complete secondary fermentation, and subsequently aged in the cellar for 120 months.
Manually disgorged, the final step was the addition of a shipping liquor coming from a centenary solera, one of the Gramona family's most treasured possessions.
Produced only in exceptional vintages and winner of several national and international awards, properly stored this Cava will improve in the bottle for many years.
Drink Gramona Celler Batlle 2009 from now until 2028-30.

The Cava Gramona Celler Batlle has a very bright, clean straw yellow colour with some golden tinges.
Extremely complex, this Brut Gran Reserva aged for 10 years suggests some rich notes of white fruit and aromatic herbs -laurel, thyme-, nuanced by subtle, endlessly evolving hints of aniseed, white roses, pastry, butter, bread crust, bitter almonds, English custard and toffee. This Spanish sparkling wine by Celler Gramona has an impressively elegant nose.
After almost 10 years in the cellar, Celler Batlle is still young, with a palate dominated by fruit. Smooth, tiny bubbles, real depth and great acidity. Texture is phenomenal, and it caresses the palate in a most gentle way. Totally controlled and focused, with a remarkable ageing potential. This blend of Xarel·lo & Macabeo has a great finish with remembrances of almonds, pastry, aromatic herbs, citrus and white flowers.

Absolutely first-rate. Vinous and very deep, more a still than a bubbly, so to speak.
A truly remarkable sparkler that really deserves the attention of the serious drinker. Not a wannabe Champagne, this has complete confidence in itself and says clearly and loudly what it has to say.
This is a world-class sparkler. In a way, it is more Champagne than Cava, because it lacks that bone-dry, super-zippy side of the great brut nature Cavas. Anyway, it is a must for bubble-lovers.
