Gramona Vi de Glass Rieling 2011 is a wine conceived along the lines of the famed German and Canadian ice wines.
For obvious climatological reasons, though, the procedure used to craft this wine is not the same as in the aforementioned cases, as in the Mediterranean it is very difficult for the grapes to freeze naturally,
Thus, some years ago the Gramona winery devised a technique of its own to produce this type of wines.
After a late harvest, the Riesling grapes were partially freezed and subsequently pressed in order to obtain a high-concentrated wine must.
Then, the must was fermented in stainless steel tanks until it reached an appropiate degree of sugar and alcohol. At that moment, fermentation was stopped by gradually decreasing temperature.
Finally, the wine was filtered to neutralize any possibility of spontaneous refermentation.
This wine from Penedés, formerly known as Vi de Gel, will evolve in the bottle for many years.
Gramona Vi de Glass Riesling 2011 is a masterly crafted product.
Bright, clean, pale yellow colour with some golden tinges.
Fresh and pleasant. Prominent notes of citrus and exotic fruit, along with some remembrances of flowers, white fruit, dry apricots, orange blossom honey and aromatic herbs.
Sweet and fresh. Notes of honey, kumquat, medlar and fresh herbs. Remarkable acidity and tension. Medium, linear finish.
