This remarkable organic Spanish white wine is made from vineyards located in the midst of the Garraf Massif, a subzone of the Penedès DO defined by two characteristics.
It is only a few kilometres from the Mediterranean Sea. Besides, it is composed of calcareous soils with an abundance of marine fossils that bring a remarkable minerality to the grapevines.
Separately harvested and vinified, the grapes were destemmed and gently pressed to use only the "free-run" juice.
Fermented in stainless steel tanks, the wine was then clarified, blended and aged for a minimum of 8 months in the cellar before its bottling.
Drink over the next 6-8 years. We suggest that you decant Gran Caus Blanc 2017 a minimum of 30 minutes before drinking.
Incidentally, Can Ràfols dels Caus is a member of Grandes Pagos de España, a group of terroir-orientated, like-minded producers that features some of the best wineries in Spain.
The wine Gran Caus Blanc has an intense golden colour with some amber tinges.
Fresher than in former vintages, this organic white wine is well-balanced and very precise on the nose. Remembrances of citrus and honey, alongside aromas of dry fruit, smoke, yellow fruit, flowers and herbs. This blend of Xarel·lo, Chenin and Chardonnay suggests some dim mineral undertones on the background.
Smooth and delicately creamy, this white wine by Can Ràfols dels Caus exudes charm and personality. Gently bitter nuances, superb acidity and a long finish with remembrances of pears and apples, a mineral twist and hints of Mediterranean underbrush, honey and flowers.
|Our personal opinion||
Sagely, the winery decided not to age Gran Caus Blanc 2017 in oak. After tasting the wine we can say that its complexity does not need any sort of wood make-up.
Gran Caus Blanc 2016:
8 months in the bottle. Enterwine 92. Parker 90.
Gran Caus Blanc 2015:

I recently visited the refurbished winery. Jaw-dropping facilites, like being in the Batcave. Tasted many wines. This I liked the most. Pure and mineral.
