The 2018 vintage of this Spanish white wine from La Rioja comes with a new composition. Thus, besides the usual Viura and Malvasía, Izadi Blanco includes a little amount of White Grenache, White Tempranillo, Maturana Blanca and Torrontés.
All of them come from old vines located in Villanueva (Rioja Alavesa), planted on mild slopes with clay-limestone soils. Climate is Atlantic with a Mediterranean influence.
Harvested at their optimal ripening state in October, once in the cellar the grapes were destemmed and gently crushed prior to fermentation.
After that, the wine must fermented both in stainless steel tanks and in oak barrels. After that, this Rioja white wine was blended and aged for 3 months on lees in the barrels.
Drink Izadi Blanco 2018 by Bodegas Izadi over the next 3 years.

The wine Izadi Blanco has a very bright, clean straw yellow colour with some greenish tinges.
Fresh and complex, this white wine from Rioja carries some fresh, lively aromas of ripe white fruit, along with notes of peaches and english custard. Izadi Blanco also shows a smokey background with a hint of aromatic herbs and toast.
Creamy and pleasant, this blend by Bodegas Izadi has a velvety body, a refreshing acidity and smooth tannins. This white wine fermented in oak suggests some remembrances of cream, smoke and ripe white fruit. Long, seductive finish.

I hold that Rioja whites are a hidden treasure. This is really authentic.
In my experience, Rioja whites age EXTREMELY well. So I bought some bottles of this, some for now, some for later.
I'm not used to drinking Rioja whites, but this was quite good!! Not overripe or oaky, the ensemble of grapes works fairly well.
