This is the new vintage of Jaume de Puntiró Porprat, a single estate, varietal organic Spanish red wine coming from Mallorca.
A single varietal Merlot, it was crafted by the Jaume de Puntiró winery from 20-year-old grapevines planted in soils composed of clay and limestone. The vineyard is located in the town of Santa Maria del Camí, a place protected by the Tramuntana mountain range about 10 kilometres from Palma de Mallorca, the capital of that enchanting island.
Harvested at their optimal ripening point and selected at the vineyard, once in the cellar the grapes were gently pressed and cold-macerated to extract more colour and aromas.
After that, this Spanish red wine belonging to the DO Binissalem-Mallorca was fermented in stainless steel tanks, and finally it was aged in French oak barrels for 12 months.
Drink Jaume de Puntiró Porprat 2015 until 2024.
Decant 30 minutes before drinking.
The wine Jaume de Puntiró Porprat has a clean, bright, medium claret-coloured robe with a cherry-coloured rim.
Elegant and complex, this Merlot from Binissalem - Mallorca exhibits some brisk aromas of raspberry jam, fine leather, liquorice, spices and chocolate. On the background, there are intimations of smoke, clay and aromatic herbs.
Bold and well-structured, this organic red wine has nevertheless a smooth entrance onto the palate, with a texture which is polished, but not plush. The tannins of this red wine by Jaume de Puntiró are succulent, and acidity is very pleasant. There are clear remembrances of blackberry jam and spices, and also some original notions of red flowers, salty earth, liquorice and chocolate. Long, seductive finish.
