Joaquín Rebolledo, creator of some remarkable white wines made from Godello in the region of Valdeorras, also crafts an interesting Spanish red wine from native varieties. Precisely this Joaquín Rebolledo Tinto Barrica.

The wine is crafted from Mencía grapes coming from the 40 hectares of vineyards owned by the winery.

The grapes are planted in very steep slopes with soils composed of slate, sand and granite.

Carefully harvested and vinified, Joaquín Rebolledo Tinto Barrica 2015 was aged for 6 months in new French and American oak barrels.

After that, this red wine from Valdeorras was aged for a further 6 months in the bottle prior to its commercial release.

Additional Information

The red wine Joaquín Rebolledo Barrica has an intense, medium-high cherry-coloured robe with a garnet rim.

This Mencía from Valdeorras begins showing some elegant aromas of wild berries, along with fine wooden notes of menthol and liquorice. As the wine opens, toffee, cinnamon and pepper appear, nuanced by some mineral undertones.

WIth a meaty body and a slightly unctuous texture, this red wine by Joaquín Rebolledo feels savoury and fresh. Creamy notes of balsam, toasted wood and spices, combined with fresh notes of red berries, orange rind and blackcurrants. Good acidity and long finish with some fruity and toasted remembrances.
