Details

Formerly known as Juan Gil 18 Meses, Juan Gil Etiqueta Azul (Blue Label) is produced in the Jumilla DO.

This Spanish red wine is made from a blend of 60% Monastrell, coming from vineyards grown at altitudes between 700 and 800 metres, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Syrah.

All of the grapes come from estate-owned vineyards planted in different types of soils.

Separately harvested and vinified depending on its plot of origin, the grapes completed malolactic fermentation in new French and American oak barrels.

Then the wine was aged for 18 months.

Produced by Juan Gil, Juan Gil Etiqueta Azul 2015 will improve in the bottle for 7-9 years.

Be sure to decant it 1 hour before drinking, as aeration really helps the wine to unfurl.

Additional Information

Appearance

Juan Gil Etiqueta Azul has an intense, high cherry-coloured robe with a garnet rim.

Nose

This Monastrell from Jumilla displays complex notes of toast and spices that slowly evolve into notes of black and red fruit, some creamy nuances, hints of coffee, tobacco and Havanna cigars, and some balsamic and Mediterranean overtones.

Palate

Savoury and bold, this Crianza red wine by Juan Gil has a palate-coating texture and a smooth body. Well-structured and fresh, with an excellent acidity that enlivens the wine. Garrigue, dry earth, wild berries, cocoa, blue flowers and some balsamic and spicy nuances. Ripe tannins and long, complex finish.

Our personal opinion

Suggestive, rich and age-worthy Juan Gil Etiqueta Azul 2015 is the perfect companion of hearty dishes.

Big wine, deep and concentrated. It is already very good, but in my view it still needs a couple of years to get rid of the baby fat completely. Top winery.
