Formerly known as Juan Gil 18 Meses, Juan Gil Etiqueta Azul (Blue Label) is produced in the DO Jumilla.
All of the grapes come from estate-owned vineyards planted in different types of soils.
Separately harvested and vinified depending on its plot of origin, the grapes completed malolactic fermentation in new French and American oak barrels.
Then this Crianza red wine was aged for 18 months.
Produced by Juan Gil, Juan Gil Etiqueta Azul 2017 will improve in the through the next 6 years.
Be sure to decant this Jumilla red wine 1 hour before drinking, as aeration really helps the wine to unfurl.
The red wine Juan Gil Etiqueta Azul has an intense, high cherry-coloured robe with a garnet rim.
The bold Etiqueta azul from Juan Gil, aka Juan Gil 18 Meses, displays complex notes of toast and spices that slowly evolve into notes of black and red fruit, some creamy nuances, hints of coffee, tobacco and Havanna cigars, and some balsamic and Mediterranean overtones.
Savoury and deep, this Crianza red wine from Juan Gil has a palate-coating texture and a smooth body. Well-structured and fresh, with an excellent acidity that enlivens the wine. Garrigue, dry earth, wild berries, cocoa, blue flowers and some balsamic and spicy nuances. Ripe tannins and long, complex finish.

Less and less oaky over the last years. Big body, but ripped fat-free. Quite a wine, you know.
Big wine, deep and concentrated. It is already very good, but in my view it still needs a couple of years to get rid of the baby fat completely. Top winery.
