This red wine is made from a blend of 60% Carignan, 30% Grenache and 10% Syrah, coming from 25 to 50 year old grapevines located at an altitude of 450 metres above sea level, and planted in clay-limestone soils with very low levels of organic matter.
Each variety was harvested at its optimal ripening state and meticulously selected.
After that, this red wine from Terra Alta completed a traditional vinification process and was aged for a period of 16 months in new French and American oak barrels.
Before its commercial release, it was aged for a minimum of 2 years in the bottle.
Decant L'Avi Arrufí 2013 no less than 1 hour before drinking.
Drink now through 2029.
The red wine L'Avi Arrufí has a very bright, intense, medium-high red-coloured robe with a violet rim.
Bold, deep and really complex, this red wine by Celler Piñol embodies the best side of the Mediterranean exuberance. Intense notes of ripe red fruit, wild berries, toast, cocoa, leather, pepper grains, and some flowery nuances and mineral undertones.
Powerful and characteristic, the wine has a velvety body and a refreshing, well-balanced acidity. While displaying an almost aristocratic elegance, L'Avi Arrufí also conveys a real sense of terroir, with mild, creamy tannins and a long, harmonious finish with notes of fruit and some mineral and toasted echoes.

The winery obviously keeps a very low profile, as virtually no one knows it outside of Spain. I discovered the wine on a trip to Catalonia, and was pleasantly impressed by it.
Lots of class here. Understated and smooth.
Classy and classic, well-rounded and full-bodied. Very reasonably priced, as it delivers lots of drinking pleasure.
