In the southern Catalonian region of Terra Alta, there is a tradition of producing white wines using the skins, stems and seeds of the grapes. A white wine produced in this manner is called Brisat (from "Brisa", the local name that designates the solid part of the grapes).
The hugely interesting La Foradada de Frisach is made in such a a way.
A single varietal White Grenache (or Vernatxa Blanca, as it is known in the region), this Spanish white wine is made from grapes coming from a single estate.
First, the wine must was fermented with the solid part of the grape bunches for some days. Then, after a gentle pressing, this organic white wine wine was aged for 12 months on its lees in stainless steel tanks, with no lees-stirrings whatsoever.
Finally, La Foradada de Frisach 2018 from Celler Frisach was bottled unfiltered and naturally stabilized through the winter cold.
The wine La Foradada de Frisach has a straw yellow colour with some golden tinges.
|Nose||A pure and interesting nose this organic white wine has. Ripe white fruit, citrus, rosemary, almonds, camomile, hay, cereal, menthol, aniseed and green almonds. This wine from Celler Frisach shows an incipient aromatic complexity.|
Smooth and palate-coating, this White Grenache has a silky body and an excellent acidity. Mediterranean herbs, some touches of honey, citrus, and white fruit, alongside some remembrances of flowers and some hints of dry earth. This wine from Terra Alta has a long, delicately bitter finish.
|Our personal opinion||
Seductive and highly idiosyncratic, La Foradada de Frisach 2018 is a Brisat that opens up new vistas for Catalan white wines.

A sort of raw, underdone wine which I find very attractive. It transmits a straightforward, pure feeling which few wines convey.
Very good, though not as good as the 2015, which was nothing short of exceptional. It has some funky, "natural wine" side to it, but it is well crafted and very lively.
