Details

To say this Spanish white wine is really special would be an understatement. In all truth, Les Brugueres Antecessor is something truly exceptional.

Produced in Priorat, this was the first white wine produced by La Conreria de Scala Dei.

A single varietal White Grenache, it is made from grapevines planted in terraces composed of slate -llicorella- soils located in two estates, Brugueres i Corrals.

Harvested by hand, the grapes were selected on site and in the cellar. The wine was crafted following the "brisat" technique, that is to say, the wine must was fermented with the skins and the solid part of the grapes in order to enhance its aromatic and tannic structure.

After that, Les Brugueres Antecessor 1997 was aged for 18 months in 225-litre oak barrels. Finally, it was aged in the bottle for a phenomenal 20 years. Yes, that's correct: for 20 years.

The result is a one-of-kind white wine from Priorat of unparalleled depth and complexity.

Gently decant 1 hour before drinking.

Appearance

The white wine Les Brugueres Antecessor has a marvelously evocative amber colour with a copper-coloured rim.

Nose

Mindblowing complexity. This White Grenache is a sort of mixture between a Georgian qvrevi white wine and a Catalan, oxidative "vi ranci". Inmensely fresh, with ripe white fruit, dry fruit, kirsch, garrigue, candied orange peel, flowers and spices. Anyway, the aromatic richness of this white wine by La Conreria d'Scala Dei is not reducible to any list of descriptors.

Palate

Beyond moreish, Les Brugueres Antecessor Blanc has a detailed and intricate texture with a slightly honeyish character. The underlying minerality provides an incredibly expressive contrast, and the freshness is rather astonishing. This white wine aged for 20 years in the bottle has a marvelous finish.

Our personal opinion

Unique and incomparable, Les Brugueres Antecessor Blanc 1997 is a sort of "Amontillado meets Priorat" white wine that has left us in awe.

How can I describe this? It is not premox, but naturally oxidized in the most appealing way. Take a pinch of oloroso style, add a dark minerality and the sensous fruit of garnacha white, all gently combined, and there you have it.
