A single varietal Tempranillo, Malpuesto comes from a single vineyard planted in 1931 an altitude of 520 metres above sea level. Grown in poor, sandy soils, the grapevines have very low yields.
Harvest was carried out by hand in little, 15-kg. boxes to prevent grape bruising. Once in the cellar, the grape bunches were destemmed, left uncrushed, and subsequently macerated and fermented in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature.
Afterwards, this Spanish red wine by Bodegas Orben winery was transferred into new French oak barrels, where it underwent malolactic fermentation with periodic punch-downs and pump-overs.
Finally, Malpuesto 2017 from La Rioja was aged for over a period of 15 months in new, fine grained French oak barrels. The wine was neither clarified nor filtered prior to its bottling, so it may contain some sediment.
Produced only in exceptional vintages, this red wine from La Rioja will drink beautifully over the next 10-12 years.
Decant 1 hour before drinking. Only 5,000 bottles produced.
The Rioja red wine Malpuesto has a very bright, medium-high cherry-coloured robe with a garnet rim.
Intense and multi-layered, this old-vines Tempranillo carries some creamy notes of black fruit, wild berries, blue flowers, and balsam, alongside some and aromas of cocoa powder, freshly ground coffee, cedar, leather, tobacco, dry earth, mineral and underbrush. Complex and seductive.
This wine by Bodegas Orben (Grupo Artevino) is bold and sinewy, and has a remarkable complexity. Pristine hints of blackcurrants, graphite, lavender and violets, alongisde remembrances of earth and turf, notions of aromatic herbs and underbrush over a toasted and spicy background. Long, complex finish with a balsamic and earthy tang. This Crianza red wine has a remarkable ageing potential.

Exciting wine. Truly eloquent and authentic.
Unknown - for me - Rioja winery. Excellent wine from head to toe. It has elan and lets the terroir speak.
An outstanding wine by one of Rioja's modernists. Bolder than the traditional style, this has great élan and vivacity. Fruit: mulberries, cranberries, raspberries... A touch of licorice and herbs. So sad to say goodbye to it.
