A single varietal, single estate Verdejo from DO Rueda, Marqués de Riscal Finca Montico is made from old vineyards over 40 years of age.

The vines are planted on terraces on the banks of the Duero river. Soils are very poor, composed mainly of gravel.

Produced by Marqués de Riscal, the grapes were harvested in little boxes to avoid fruit bruising. Once in the cellar, they were cold-soaked and delicately pressed in order to obtain a high quality free-run juice.

Then half of this Spanish white wine was fermented in stainless steel tanks, and the other half in French oak vats.

Then both wines were blended, and this white wine from Rueda was subsequently aged for 6 months on its lees.

Drink Finca Montico 2017 until 2025.

Additional Information

The white wine Finca Montico has a very bright, clean pale yellow colour with some greenish and golden tinges.

Clean, precise mineral notes and well-defined aromas of bitter herbs, fennel and flowers. This white wine aged on lees also suggests dim remembrances of white fruit and dry fruit.

Precise, palate-coating and sophisticated, this Verdejo by Marqués de Riscal conveys a clear sense of terroir and an enticing minerality. Smooth texture, quite detailed, with a first-class acidity and long, complex finish with remembrances of fennel, aniseed and hay.

Our personal opinion

  1. Montico review by By the time I went to Phoenix... on 3/13/2019

One of the best Verdejos out there, comparable to Belondrade but much more affordable.

  2. Montico review by Alone in Kyoto on 11/14/2017

Very subtle and classy. Nose is suprisingly delicate for a Verdejo. The palate is mineral, crisp and very precise. Excellent.
