The grapes come from vines 30 years old on average. They are farmed following environmentally friendly practices that exclude the use of chemicals, herbicides and insecticides.
Harvested by hand, the grapes were destemmed and fermented in stainless steel tanks with daily pump-overs and punch-downs.
After 11 days, they underwent malolactic fermentation and were transferred into French, American and Russian oak barrels.
There, the wine was aged for 20 months. During the process, it was drawn off every 5-6 months.
Decant this Rioja reserve wine of the Marqués de Vargas winery 1 hour before drinking.
Drink now until 2022+.
Dark cherry colour with a ruby rim.
Red and black fruit, delicately nuanced by aromas of spices, cocoa, remembrances of Havanna cigars, cedar, toast, aromatic herbs, liquorice and balsam.
Smooth and silky, displaying intense notes of toast and fruit underpinned by aromas of menthol, underbush, exotic spices and cocoa. Well-balanced acidity, mellow tannins and medium, slightly bitter, elegant finish.

This Spanish red wine Marqués de Vargas Reserva 2011 is a serious wine from Rioja that, despite it is currently drinking wonderfully, has some very good years ahead of it.
