A remarkable value which voices the Priorat terroir in a most elegant way, Mas Mallola is made from 18 hectares of low-yielding grapevines up to 40 years of age. Located near the town of Porrera, they are planted at altitudes between 400 and 700 metres above sea level.
Produced by the Marco Abella winery, the 2016 vintage of this Spanish red wine wine is made mainly from Grenache, complemented with some Carignan. Thus, this Vi de Vila includes no international varieties in the blend not to dilute its local character.
Harvested by hand, the organically and biodynamically farmed grapes were selected on site and separately vinified according to its variety and plot of origin.
First, they were fermented in stainless steel tanks for 10 days, and subsequently macerated for 30 days. After that, this Priorat red wine was aged for 20 months in French oak barrels of different sizes from 5 different origins. Finally, the wine was blended, bottled and aged for some months in the cellar before its release.
Decant Mas Mallola 2016 for minimum of 1 hour before drinking.
Drink now until 2028.
The biodynamic red wine Mas Mallola has an intense, high cherry-coloured robe with a garnet rim.
Loads of ripe red and black fruit, mingled with notions of clove, cocoa and nutmeg over a background of dark mineral, dry earth, aromatic herbs, tobacco, blue flowers and balsam. The nose of Mas Mallola exhibits a wonderfully local character, typical of a thoroughbred crianza red wine from Priorat.
Masterly crafted, this wine by Marco Abella has a smoothness that delights the palate and makes its depth all the more inviting. Juicy notes of fruit, underpinned by remembrances of liquorice, black stones, cocoa, Mediterranean undergrowth, lavender and menthol. Fresh and lively, this blend of Grenache & Carignan has some ripe tannins and a very long, mineral finish.

Remarkable, but not up there already. I think that it will peak in about 3-4 years.
Enchanting wine. So fresh and mineral. Fruit is sweet like a dream.
An exceptional wine. The soul of Priorat and an elegance that you rarely find outside of France. Lovely.
