Matsu El Viejo is a single varietal Tinta de Toro wine made from biodynamically farmed vineyards.
The grapes of this bold Spanish organic red wine, which is only produced in exceptional vintages, come from over 100-year-old vines.
Harvested by hand, once in the facilities of the Matsu winery the grapes were destemmed and then fermented and macerated in concrete vats.
After that, the wine underwent malolactic fermentation in new French oak barrels.
Finally, the wine was aged in those same barrels for a period of 16 months.
Prior to its bottling, the wine was not filtered, and only delicately clarified.
We emphatically suggest that you decant this wine from Toro for a minimum of 1 hour before drinking.
Drink Matsu El Viejo 2015 from now until 2026+.
Matsu El Viejo has a dark, bright, high cherry-coloured robe with a reddish rim.
This single varietal Tinta de Toro from Toro is deep, complex, fascinating. Loads of black fruit, combined with notes of roasted coffee, tobacco, Moroccan leather, spices, flowers, dry earth and a resounding, enticing minerality.
Powerful and big, this red wine by Bodega Matsu-Grupo Vintae has a rock-solid core that will improve and develop for many years. Juicy notes of red and black fruit, a smokey touch, a distinctive mineral background and remembrances of blue flowers and undergrowth. Excellent acidity, ripe tannins and very long, toasted finish.
|Our personal opinion||
Matsu El Viejo 2015 is a purebred Tinta de Toro that, behind its imposing structure, has a sophisticated, almost genteel core.
