The last vintages of this prestigious Spanish red wine - crafted, as always, by the respected winemaker Mariano García - are somewhat different from the former ones. Thus, Mauro continues to exhibit a lighter, more Atlantic character.
This time, this Crianza red wine from Castilla y León was produced from a blend of 95% Tempranillo and 5% Syrah grapes coming from over 25 year-old vines. Both were harvested between the end of September and the beginning of October.
Selected in the vineyard and in the cellar, the grapes were destemmed and separately vinified according to the variety and plot of origin.
Alcoholic fermentation took place in big stainless steel tanks and was followed by a 3-week skin maceration.
Then it was transferred into American and French oak barrels, where it was aged for 15 months.
Finally, this Spanish red wine produced by the Mauro winery was aged for a further 3 months in the cellar prior to its release. It was bottled in April 2017.
We emphatically suggest that you decant the wine a minimum of 1 hour before you drink it.
Drink Mauro 2015 from now until 2025.
Bear in mind that this remarkable red wine from Valladolid will consistently improve over the next years.
Mauro has a high cherry-coloured robe with a violet rim.
This red wine from Castilla y León is superbly elegant. Exultant notes of fresh red berries, alongside a touch of black fruit, balsam, toast, spices, wet earth, undergrowth, moss, black truffles, tapenade and mineral. Classy and complex.
This red wine by Bodegas Mauro made from Tempranillo and Syrah is savoury, bold and information-rich. Ripe fruit, toast, liquorice, underbush, mineral, a dash of blue flowers, some mineral undertones and a real sense of terroir. Exceptional acidity, powerful tannins and very long finish.
|Our personal opinion||
Mauro 2015 is a modern Spanish classic from Castilla y León. The winery's turn towards an ever more elegant and sophisticated approach proves to be completely successful with every new vintage.

Mauro ranks very high on my top Spanish wines list. This is a wine for the future, though. Now it feels agonizingly young. Put it to sleep and do not wake it before 5 years.
