The excellent Mestres Mas Via ranks among the best wines belonging to the Cava designation.
Produced by the Mestres winery, a company that embodies like few others the best Cava traditions, this Spanish sprarkling wine is made from grapevines over 60 years of age, coming from estate-owned vineyards located in the surroundings of Sant Sadurní d'Anoia, the heartland of Cava.
After that, this Cava Gran Reserva was separately fermented according to the variety, and subsequently aged for 12 months in chestnut barrels. Then this Cava from Penedès was blended and bottled. Finally, the wine underwent secondary fermentation and was aged for no less than 140 months in the cellar.
A limited-edition sparkler made only in exceptional vintages, Mestres Mas Via 2004 was manually disgorged.
Open the bottle a minimum of 30 minutes before you drink it. Drink through 2025.
3,441 bottles produced.
The Cava Mestres Mas Via has a bright, intense golden colour with some amber glints.
One of the most interesting features of Mas Via by Mestres is that it shows the degree of elegance which great Cavas can attain. Baked apples, remembrances of honey and royal jelly, deep mineral nuances and hints of toasted almonds, Mediterranean herbs, pastry and fine lees. Sophisticated and really complex.
Smooth and richly textured, this Gran Reserva Brut is focused and in complete command of itself. The bubbles are perfectly integrated and delicate, and there is a sensational balance between fruit and the ageing notes. Spices, white fruit, dry fruit, garrigue and camphor, with a Riesling-like hint. This Cava by Mestres has a crisp acidity and a long, delicious finish.
|Our personal opinion||
An outstanding sparkler aged for more than 12 years, Mestres Mas Via 2004 needs time to be fully enjoyed, as it hides plenty of subtleties.

Fabulous Cava. Body is smooth, with solid bones.
Right now, it is outrageously good. Nevertheless, I bet it will live 5 o 10 more years easily, and it will keep improving. So make a guess...
