The Celler Escoda-Sanahuja began its activity in 1997 following the guidelines of organic farming. In 2003, they took a step forward and implemented biodynamic practices in all of its agricultural procedures.
Made from Cabernet Franc, Carignan, Grenache and Merlot, Nas Del Gegant is a young Spanish red wine produced from vineyards around 20 years of age grown in Prenafeta, Tarragona, at an altitude of 450 metres above sea level.
The vines grow in clay-limestone soils under a purely Mediterranean climate.
Harvested by hand following the indications of the lunar calendar, this natural and biodynamic red wine was fermented in stainless steel tanks and subsequently aged for 10 months in those same containers.
Prior to its bottling, Nas del Gegant 2018 was not filtered or clarified. Moreover, its sulfite content is extremely low.
Be sure to vigorously decant this wine from Conca de Barberà at least 1 hour before you drink it, preferably more.
Drink this red wine from Conca de Barberà over the next 24 months.
The red wine Nas del Gegant has an intense, medium-low cherry-coloured robe with a garnet rim.
Extremely reduced at the beginning, this natural red wine from Conca de Barberà sure needs plenty of air to start delivering. When it opens, we find aromas of red berries, withered flowers, Mediterranean undergrowth, white pepper, dried flowers and balsam.
This red wine by the Escoda-Sanahuja winery is intriguing and, some might say, baffling. Light and carefree, with fresh nuances of red berries, alongside notes of vegetables, spices, blue flowers and underbush. This low sulfite wine has some nice tannins, a high acidity and a pleasant, medium-long finish.
|Our personal opinion||
There is little doubt that natural wine is an acquired taste. However, if you enjoy this kind of wines, you will surely find the sheer "rawness" and immediacy of Nas del Gegant 2018 extremely appealing.

An acquired taste which I, for one, have acquired. Decant and shake vigorously to clear the space. Then the wine will drink wonderfully.
Winery has really improved over the years. It is biodynamic, but not stinky. Quite good.
