Located at an altitude between 350 and 500 metres and planted on terraces, the vines are over 75 years old and grow in sandy-clay and limestone soils.
The grapes of this red wine from Montsant were harvested by hand and meticulously selected.
Once in the cellar, they were gently destemmed and separately fermented and macerated in 400-litre French oak barrels.
After that, and having completed malolactic fermentation, Octònia 2010 was aged on its lees for 16 months in French oak barrels.
Finally, this wine crafted by the oenologist Josep Serra, who is also in charge of the Galician winery Godelia, was clarified with egg whites before its bottling.
Drink now until 2022. Decant 1 hour before drinking.
Clean, bright, medium-high garnet-coloured robe with a ruby rim and some bluish tinges.
Complex nose of red berries and wild violets punctuated by balsamic remembrances, Mediterranean garrigue and a touch of graphite, black truffles and charcoal. On the background, faraway suggestions of toast, smoke and tobacco leaves. Really sophisticated.
Smooth and medium-bodied, with a lively, luminous character and a remarkable complexity. Velvety texture, crisp acidity and mellow tannins. A display of wild berries, mineral undertones, undergrowth and flowers. Long, complex finish.
|Our personal opinion||
Octònia 2010 is an age-worthy wine that shows a deeper, richer, more complex side of Mediterranean wine.
