The new vintage of this rare and confidentialwhite wine from Priorat is made from a blend of White Grenache and Macabeo, complemented with a touch of Pedro Ximénez.

Produced by the Marco Abella winery, Òlbia 2015 is made from vines grown in slate soils and farmed following the guidelines of biodynamic agriculture.

The grapes were harvested by hand and cold-soaked.

Alcoholic fermentation was carried out in French oak barrels, where the wine was also aged for 6 months and periodically drawn-off.

Production of this white wine from Priorat is extremely limited.

Less than 1,000 bottles.

Decant 45 minutes before drinking. Drink now until 2020+.

Additional Information

Very bright, clean straw colour with some golden tinges.

Evocative mineral notions, over which we perceive aromas of ripe pears, apples, white flowers, toast, smoke, spices and aromatic herbs.

The Priorat wine white Òlbia by Marcos Abella is fresh and quite complex, with a great balance between fruit and the ageing notes. Toast, white fruit, citrus, honey, royal jelly, rosemary, smoke and mineral. Excellent acidity and long, complex finish.

Our personal opinion

Rewardingly complex and age-worthy, Òlbia 2015 is a white wine that deserves the connoisseurs' attention.

Similar to southern Rhône whites. The exciting minerality sets it apart, however. It stil has some baby fat, but I think it will shake it in 2-3 years, becoming a real palate killer.

  2. olbia abella review by Goscellin on 6/11/2018

Creamy, big-structured, with a crisp acidity that keeps everything in place. As somebody said, maybe Priorat's future is in its white wines.
