Details

The 2016 vintage of this Spanish red wine was qualified as "Excellent" by the Ribera del Duero regulatory board.

As usual, Pago de Carraovejas Crianza is made from a blend of Tinta Fina (aka Tempranillo), Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.

Produced by Pago de Carraovejas, it is made from young vines located near the town of Peñafiel and planted over beautiful hillsides by the Duero river.

Meticulously vinified in stainless steel tanks and French oak vats, after that the wine was aged for 12 months in American and French oak barrels. Finally, Pago de Carraovejas Crianza 2016 was clarified with egg whites.

Finally, this Crianza red wine was bottled in Spring 2018 and subsequently aged for a minimum of 8 months in the bottle before its commercial release.

Properly stored, this red wine from Ribera del Duero will evolve beautifully over the next 8 years.

We recommend that you decant it for a minimum of 30 minutes before you drink it.

Additional Information

Appearance

The wine Pago de Carraovejas Crianza has a medium-high, cherry-coloured robe with a violet rim.

Nose

Lush and opulent, this Crianza red wine from Ribera del Duero displays juicy aromas of red berries and black fruit, along with some lactic touches, notes of spices and toast, and some brush-strokes of menthol and balsam. In the background, some oaky remembrances and a note of dry undergrowth.

Palate

Smooth and meaty, this Crianza by Pago de Capellanes is nicely textured and sophisticated. Remembrances of mulberries and blackberries, a touch of balsam and spices, and some earthy and floral suggestions. Tannins are ripe and well integrated and finish is long and yummy, leaving endless remembrances of fruit, toast and Asian spices.

Our personal opinion

If you ever have the chance to pair this Pago de Carraovejas 2016 with a Castilian roast lamb, don't miss it. Gastronomic plenitude!
