Pago de Santa Cruz 2012 is a high-end Spanish red wine produced by the Hermanos Sastre winery.
A single varietal Tempranillo, it is made from grapes coming from a single plot composed of clay-limestone soils.
The over 70-year-old vines are located at an altitude over 800 metres above sea level and have extremely low yields.
Meticulously harvested, the grapes were vinified in stainless steel tanks.
After that, this red wine from Ribera del Duero was aged for 18 months in new American oak barrels.
Prior to its release, the wine was aged for some months in the cellar.
An age-worthy red, it will improve in the bottle for a period of 15 years.
Be sure to decant the wine at least 1 hour before you drink it.
Medium-high, bright cherry-coloured robe with a reddish rim.
Deep mineral notes that convey a real sense of terroir, enlivened by pristine notions of red berries, some balsamic remembrances, finely integrated wooden touches and a panoply of exotic spices.
Powerful and well-balanced, with an impressive potential for growth. First-class fruit, intertwined with remembrances of balsam, spices, flowers and the terroir footprint. Velvety and complex, with an extremely long finish.
