Details

Made by the Arzuaga Navarro winery, Pago Florentino is a single varietal & single estate Spanish red wine.

The grapes come from "La Solana", a tract of land located in the province of Ciudad Real. The grapevines grow in slopes composed of clay soils with a high capacity for retaining water, a fact that helps to avoid an excessive hydric stress of the plants.

Made from Cencibel (the local clone of Tempranillo), and belonging to the tiny DO Pago Florentino, the grapes were harvested at their optimal ripening point and brought to the cellar in 20 kg. boxes.

After a careful selection process, the bunches were destemmed and cold-soaked for 5 days in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature. After finishing alcoholic fermentation, this Crianza red wine was racked into French and American oak barrels, where it completed malolactic fermentation and was aged for 12 months.

To preserve its special qualities Pago Florentino 2016 was bottled without being filtered or clarified.

Additional Information

Appearance

The Spanish red wine Pago Florentino has an intense cherry colour with a bright garnet rim.

Nose

Intense suggestions of sweet spices, toasted oak and roasted coffee. As this single estate wine opens, it conveys some hints of black fruit and some mineral and herbal touches on the background. An expressive red wine made from Cencibel.

Palate

Nicely crafted by Bodegas Arzuaga Navarro, the wine has a meaty texture and an intense passage through the palate. Expressive notes of black fruit and graphite, along with ripe and round tannins with a fresh acidity. This red wine from Castilla-La Mancha has a long, creamy aftertaste.

Our personal opinion

The savoury Pago Florentino 2016 is a truly nice value which pais wonderfully with BBQs and roasted meats.
