Details

This Spanish red wine marked a step forward for the Palacio Quemado - Bodegas Alvear winery. A terroir-oriented wine, this is the second vintage in which Palacio Quemado La Zarcita bears the label "Vino de Pago" (single estate wine).

Produced by the Palacio Quemado winery, it is made from vines farmed following sustainable procedures. They are located in the southern Spanish region of Extremadura, in an area belonging to the Ribera del Guadiana DO.

A blend of Tempranillo and Syrah, completed with a tiny portion of Cabernet Sauvignon, the grapes were separately harvested and vinified.

After the process, 75% of this red wine from Ribera del Guadiana was aged for 8 months in 2nd and 3rd year French oak barrels. The rest was aged in concrete tanks. Then the wine was blended and further aged before its release.

Drink Palacio Quemado La Zarcita 2016 from now until 2023.

30,000 bottles produced.

Additional Information

Appearance

The Spanish red wine Palacio Quemado La Zarcita by Bodegas Alvear has a dark, bright, clean cherry colour with some violet tinges and a garnet rim.

Nose

This red wine from Ribera del Guadiana has a medium intensity and an excellent balance. Some lactic nuances, alongside aromas of spices, violets and wild herbs.

Palate

Meaty and savoury, La Zarcita by Bodega Alvear - Palacio Quemado unveils some earthy notions, a touch of red berries and some toasted remembrances. Well-balanced acidity and lively tannins. Long finish with some remembrances of red and black fruit.

Our personal opinion

Easy-to-drink but not at all trivial, Palacio Quemado La Zarcita 2016 is a pleasant surprise produced in Extremadura.
