Sought-after and confidential, Pas Curtei is a Spanish red wine crafted with exquisite care by Irene Alemany and Laurent Corrió, a Catalan woman and a Breton that after travelling the world decided to settle in Penedès to produce terroir-oriented wines.
Produced through the Alemany i Corrió winery, this red wine from Penedès is made from a blend of Merlot (60%) coming from young vines, Cabernet Sauvignon coming from 30-year-old vines, and a touch of very old-vines Carignan. All of the vines are farmed following organic and biodynamic procedures.
Manually harvested and meticulously selected, the grapes were cold-soaked, destemmed, macerated for a very short time and then fermented uncrushed in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature. Then this red wine from Penedès was transferred into Burgundy oak barrels, 20% new, and 80% 3 years of age, where it completed malolactic fermentation was aged for 15 months.
Gently filtered prior to its bottling, but not clarified or stabilized, we recommend that you decant Pas Curtei 2016 1 hour before drinking, as the wine opens quite tight.
This wine, incidentally, will evolve magnificently.
Appearance | The wine Pas Curtei has a bright, medium-high cherry-coloured robe with a violet rim. An organic red wine with an imposing look. |
---|---|
Nose | Remarkably complex on the nose. The Merlot brings aromas of of ripe plums, blackberries, and some dim spicy notes. The Cabernet provides the note of green bell pepper and some herbal remembrances, and the Carignan adds a tip of chinese ink. There are also some clean notes of leather, a toasted and balsamic layer, and a citrusy remembrance over a mineral background. |
Palate | Bold and fresh, with a well-structured, almost athletic body. This wine from Alemany i Corrió has plenty of ripe black fruit, with underbrush, spices and some bitter touches. Ripe, silky tannins, first-class acidity, and long, slightly bitter finish with some smoky remembrances. |
Our personal opinion | Robust, complex and deep, Pas Curtei 2016 is a different kind of wine that needs time to be appreciated. An absurdly good value. |

Unbeknownst to me till recently, this is a truly sensational wine at a laughable price. Bring it to any meeting and it will steal the show.
WoooWW!! A mixture of Bordeaux and the Mediterranean that REALLY works. It is deep, balsamic, concentrated and super fresh.
