Produced in the DO Utiel-Requena, Pasión de Bobal is a Spanish red wine made from a little-known grape variety that is arousing a growing interest among wine connoisseurs.
This single varietal red wine from Utiel-Requena is crafted from the indigenous grape Bobal, coming from over 60-year-old vines planted at altitudes over 900 metres. As for the 2017 vintage, it is the first certified organic one.
Harvested in late October, once in the cellar the grapes were cold-soaked and fermented at a low temperature.
Then Pasión de Bobal 2017 underwent malolactic fermentation in 2nd year French oak barrels and was aged for 6 months.
Drink this wine from Bodega Sierra Norte until 2022.
The red wine Pasión de Bobal has an intense, medium red-coloured robe with some purplish glints.
This interesting Crianza red wine suggests some juicy, expressive notes of red and black fruit, underpinned by notions of underbush, lavender, herbs and balsam. An idiosyncratic Bobal wine.
Extremely savoury and lively, this red wine from Bodega Sierra Norte has a lively acidity and ripe tannins. Seductive notes of fruit, blue flowers and some earthy and floral remembrances. Long, fresh finish.
|Our personal opinion||
Bodega Sierra Norte from Utiel-Requena has done an excellent job with this Pasión de Bobal 2017. Once you get to know the Bobal grape, it definitely stays with you.
