An honest, gentle Cabernet Sauvignon aged for almost four years at an exceptional price? An emphatic yes. This is Pinord Chateldon Reserva.
The grapes used to produce this Spanish red wine come from estate vineyards located in the town of Costers de Muntanyans, in the heart of the Penedès region.
Meticulously selected in the vineyard, the grapes were transported to the cellar, destemmed and cold-soaked. Alcoholic fermentation was carried out in stainless steel tanks, while malolactic fermentation took place in French and American oak barrels.
Once both fermentations were completed, the wine was aged for 14 months in those same barrels. Then Pinord Chateldon Reserva 2012 was lightly filtered prior to its bottling and aged for a further 24 months in the facilities of the Pinord winery.
We recommend that you decant this reserve red wine from Penedès 30 minutes before you drink it.
Drink from now until 2022.
The wine Pinord Chateldon Reserva has a clean, bright cherry colour with a garnet hue at the rim.
Remarkably complex, this single varietal Cabernet Sauvignon from Penedès is reminiscent of ripe, almost jammy red berries, along with green bell peppers, roasted red peppers, a variety of spices such as clove, cinnamon, Jamaican pepper and vanilla, and some toasted and smoky notes.
The years have worked wonders for this reserve red wine by the Pinord winery. Fresh, mature, and well-balanced, this Cabernet from Penedès combines in a gracious manner notes of red fruit, some mineral hints, some touches of aromatic herbs, bridled tannins and a crisp acidity. Long, toasted finish with some fruity overtones.
|Our personal opinion||
As we all know, nowadays it is not easy to buy a wine which is already at its peak without having to spend a considerable amount of money. Pinord Chateldon Reserva 2012 is a peak wine, but also an excellent value.

I really don't know why this isn't massively exported and sold in the UK. Trust me when I say that in a bling tasting it could put to shame many Bordeaux reds.
A Cab from el penedes 7 years in the making. Super well balanced, with poise and real definition. Incredible bargain.
