This Spanish red wine is the result of Vega Sicilia's efforts to bring out the best qualities of the bold Tinta de Toro grape.
It is made from grapes coming from two plots, planted with vines between 27 and 50 years of age.
The 2011 vintage was a tough one, with a serious drought and all kinds of problems that forced the winemaking team to perform at their best.
Harvested by hand, the Tinta de Toro grapes were selected once on site and twice in the cellar.
After being destemmed, they were fermented in stainless steel tanks, and 10% of them underwent malolactic fermentation in oak barrels.
Then, Pintia 2011 was aged in 70% French oak barrels and 30% American oak barrels for 12 months.
Finally, this wine of Bodegas Pintia was clarified with egg whites, bottled and aged for a minimum of 24 months.

Deep, intense cherry colour with a garnet rim.
The nose opens with a deeply balsamic and mineral background that sustains a well-defined layer of black fruit, cocoa and flowers, combined with nuances of sweet spices, leather, aromatic herbs and some earthy remembrances.
Smooth and well-balanced, with a first-class acidity and a solid structure. Mulberries and blackberries, a touch of violets and underbush, notes of bitter chocolate and suggestions of Eastern spices, menthol, cedar and Havanna cigars. Yummy tannins and long, rich finish.

Complex and nicely crafted, Pintia 2011 has a remarkable ageing potential. If you have the chance, we suggest that you store some bottles for a few years.
