Crafted by the young, but already famous French winemaker Olivier Rivière, Rayos Uva is a Spanish red wine produced in Rioja.
This red wine is made from a blend of Grenache, Graciano and Tempranillo coming from low-yielding vines grown at an altitude of 650 metres above sea level. The soils are composed of sand and limestone and, moreover, are covered with pebble stones -similar to the legendary "galets" of Chateauneuf-du-Pape.
Produced only from the "free-run" juice, the grapes were destemmed and cold-soaked. Then the wine was fermented and, following the traditional procedure, macerated with daily pump-overs. Rayos Uva 2017 was subsequently aged on its lees for 5 months, beginning in stainless steel tanks and completing the process in old wooden vats.
Drink this red wine from Rioja by Olivier Rivière over the next 5 years.
The red wine Rayos Uva has a bright, medium-high cherry robe with a violet hue at the rim.
The ageing on lees clearly shows its influence in this young red wine from Rioja. Aromas of black fruit and hints of violets over an evocative background of dried herbs.
Fresh and tasty, with red and black fruit, mineral notes and some bitter touches. This red wine by Olivier Rivière is clean and well crafted, full of French finesse, the wine has supple tannins and a crisp acidity. Long finish with some undergrowth remembrances.

What the Frenchman Olivier Rivière has accomplished after only a few years in Spain is quite impressive. This is his entry-level wine, and it is simply delicious. It makes you wanna drink his top wines, some of which are very highly priced.
