The exquisite Remírez de Ganuza Reserva is produced by one of modern Rioja's most prestigious producers.
The vineyards are planted in plots composed of clay-limestone soils, scattered over several towns around the area of Sierra Cantabria.
As always with Remírez de Ganuza, this Rioja Reserva was vinified with an almost fanatical attention to detail. After a meticulous selection, the destemmed grapes - selected only from the "shoulders" of the grape bunches - were fermented in 7,000 litre French oak vats.
The malolactic fermentation of Remírez de Ganuza Reserva took place in new French oak barrels. Once completed, this red wine from La Rioja was aged for 26 months in 90% French and 10% American oak barrels. Finally, it was aged for 24 months in the bottle before its release.
Decant Remírez de Ganuza Reserva 2011 a minimum of 1 hour before drinking.
This will age beautifully.
The wine Remírez de Ganuza Reserva has a clean, bright, dark cherry-coloured robe with a reddish rim.
Intense, deep and really complex, this reserve red wine from Remírez de Ganuza suggests some notes of toast, juicy aromas of black fruit - bilberries and mulberries -, Eastern spices, Havanna cigars, dim smokey and balsamic nuances, underbrush, flowers and some earthy and mineral notions.
Full of life and lavish, this reserve red wine from La Rioja is full of juicy red fruit, with the purest cocoa notes, some wild berries, a bouquet of flowers, spices and some mineral undertones. Silky textured, with a superb acidity and some smooth tannins. Very long, delicately toasted finish.
|Our personal opinion||
As always, Remírez de Ganuza Reserva 2011 is elegant, age-worthy and deep. A truly great, modern-style Rioja.

I don't know why I have spent so much money and time hunting for Bordeaux and Burgundies when you can drink something this good for a fraction of the price.
Hats off to the people who made this wine for making my life wonderful for 3 hours.
