This is the new vintage of a rare Spanish red wine from La Rioja. Indeed, San Vicente is one of the very few single varietal Tempranillo Peludo ("Hairy Tempranillo") wines available on the market.
A rare, delicate native variety which produces more elegant and misterious wines than the ones made from Tempranillo, it was rescued from an almost sure extinction by the Señorío de San Vicente in the early 1980s. This winery is located next to its vineyards in the city of San Vicente de La Sonsierra, in Rioja Alavesa.
After a meticulous harvest in which the grapes were selected on site and in the cellar, the fruit was manually destemmed and fermented for 10 days with their skins, with two pump-overs performed daily.
After a maceration period, this reserve red wine underwent malolactic fermentation in 90% French and 10% American oak barrels, where San Vicente 2015 was also aged for 20 months, being drawn-off every 4 months.
Drink this exclusive wine until 2030.
Decant a minimum of 1 hour before drinking. 50,000 bottles produced.
The wine San Vicente has an intense cherry red coloured robe with garnet edges.
The nose of this wine by the Señorío de San Vicente winery is exuberant and superbly elegant. Pristine aromas of wild raspberries and blackberries that, as the wine opens, develop into notes of vanilla, cinnamon and sandalwood. As this Reserva from La Rioja opens, the parade continues with dark chocolate after eight mints, fresh fragrant cigars, aromas of flowers and mineral undertones.
Flavorful and full of nuance, this Tempranillo Peludo has a remarkable complexity. Juicy red fruit, remembrances of flowers, enticing mineral undertones and some toasted notes along with elegant spicy notions that are very well-integrated. Good acidity, and a long finish with an aftertaste of nuanced spices, vanillas, and more roasted notes. Impressive ageing potential.

Super good wine. Amazingly profound.
Exceptional wine from an obscure rare variety. One-of-a-kind Rioja!!
I was curious about this 'hairy tempranillo' and was not disappointed. It is veeeery smooth, with no tension or rough corners, and an immensely pleasurable fruit.
