Produced by Enrique Mendoza, one of the most interesting producers in the Spanish Levant, Santa Rosa is made from a combination of international grapes that, nevertheless, succeeds in bringing out the best of the Mediterranean terroir of Alicante.
This Spanish red wine was crafted as a tribute to his mother, Mrs. Rosa Cortés, who was passionate about the world of wine and food.
Separately harvested, the grapes were destemmed, macerated for a minimum of 12 days with daily pump-overs, and fermented at a controlled temperature using indigenous yeasts.
Then this red wine by Enrique Mendoza was transferred into French oak barrels from Allier and aged for 17 months. Then it was aged for a further months in the bottle and released in July 2018.
This red wine from Alicante should be decanted a minimum of 1 hour before drinking.
If this Santa Rosa 2015 is kept in a good condition, it will improve in the bottle for 7-8 years.
The wine Santa Rosa has an intense and deep cherry colour with scarlet edges.
This reserve red wine by Bodegas Enrique Mendoza has an intense minerality, with many fresh notes of graphite and wet soils, which are intertwined with some toasty notes. When opened, fresh and ripe fruit leap from the bottle alongside some creamy and spicy notes and fresh balsamic aromas. After this wine has been opened for a little while, floral and sweet aromas, combined with enticing mineral undertones, become more present.
Elegant and deep, with a rock-solid structure, Santa Rosa Reserva has a luscious texture which delights the palate. A tense acidity makes the wine fresh and powerful, and the tannins are firm and mildly sweet. Red berries, chocolate, tapenade, blue flowers, dry earth and some salty nuances. Finish is very, very long and persistent, and it leaves a toasted aftertaste with notes of damp wood.
