In comparison to other wines from the area, this Shaya Verdejo has a character that puts it in a category of its own.

Produced in Rueda, this Spanish white wine is a single varietal Verdejo made from 70-year-old, low-yielding vineyards grown in sandy-clayey soils.

The main part of this wine by Bodegas y Viñedos Shaya was fermented in stainless steel tanks, where it was aged for several months. A 30% of it, however, was fermented in oak barrels and aged for 3-4 months on its lees. Finally, this varietal old-vines Verdejo was blended and bottled.

Drink Shaya Verdejo 2017 until 2021.

Additional Information

The white wine Shaya Verdejo has a clean, bright pale yellow colour with some greenish tinges.

This old-vines Verdejo smells of exotic fruit, citrus, ripe bananas, passion fruit, hay and some herbal and mineral nuances. A characteristic white wine from Rueda.

This white wine by Bodegas y Viñedos Shaya is smooth and palate-coating, showing a fruity character and a vibrant acidity. This white wine by the Gil Family also suggests some mineral undertones and bitter nuances, combined with notions of peach, spices and toast. Long finish.

Our personal opinion

Fruity, yummy and seductive, Shaya Verdejo 2017 is savoury, drinkable and well-crafted. A truly nice white wine.
