Details

Sot Lefriec 2007, the flagship wine of the Alemany i Corrió winery, is a truly garage wine, one of the first ever produced in Catalonia. Besides that, it is also one of the great red wines produced in Penedés.

Made from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Carignan grapes painstainkingly selected both at the vineyard and in the cellar, every variety was separately vinified according to its specific characteristics and needs.

Destemmed and cold-soaked, the grapes were fermented in contact with its lees for 5 weeks in stainless steel tanks. Then the wine was blended and transferred into oak barrels to complete malolactic fermentation.

Finally, the wine was aged in oak for 23 months. In order to preserve its great qualities, it was neither filtered nor clarified prior to its bottling.

Thus, it is highly advisable that you decant this wine for a minimum of 2 hours before you drink it.

Additional Information

Appearance

Sot Lefriec 2007 has a dark, medium-high, cherry-coloured robe with violet tinges and a garnet rim.

Nose

Extremely complex, the wine benefits greatly from a prolonged aeration. Mineral undertones, red berries, black fruit, notes of garrigue and underbush, toast, sesame seeds, liquorice, dry fruit, cocoa, arabica coffe, liquor-infused fruit, intriguing remembrances of honey and wax and a dash of ink.

Palate

Sot Lefriec 2007 is meaty, bold and voluminous, with slightly rugged tannins and a wonderful acidity that brings freshness to the palate. The parade of flavours is almost endless, as it was the case on the nose. Beside the fruit, the mineral and the spices, particularly seductive are the notes of bitter almonds and the vermouth-like remembrances of bitter herbs that define the wine's ending. Quite an experience.

Our personal opinion

Sot Lefriec 2007 is arguably one of Spain's most original, radical red wines. For connoisseurs and courageous drinkers.
